Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our services, process, and how we can best assist you. If you don't see your question, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

How many service attempts are included?

Standard, Rush, and Same-Day process service include up to three service attempts at the address provided unless otherwise stated. Attempts are scheduled at the process server's discretion based on the circumstances of the assignment.

What is the difference between Standard, Rush, and Same-Day service?

Standard service generally provides a first attempt within 2–3 business days. Rush service generally provides a first attempt within 24 hours. Same-Day service provides a first attempt on the same business day for eligible orders received with complete documents and payment before 11:00 a.m.

Does ordering process service guarantee the person will be served?

No. Ordering process service does not guarantee that the intended recipient will be located or served. If a physical attempt is unsuccessful, a door hanger/service notice may be left only when the client has authorized its use. A door hanger does not itself constitute personal service of process.

What information should I provide with my order?

Please provide the documents to be served in PDF format, the recipient's known address, available contact information, applicable court deadlines, and any special service instructions. Additional identifying information may also be helpful when appropriate.

Do I have to authorize a door hanger?

Yes. Door hangers are optional and are only used when the client expressly authorizes them.

When placing your service order, please state in the Service Instructions whether you authorize door hangers/service notices or do not authorize door hangers/service notices.

For example:

“Door hanger authorized.”

or

“Door hanger not authorized.”

If your service instructions do not state whether a door hanger is authorized, we may contact you for clarification before using one.

Door hangers are provided at no additional charge with physical process-serving assignments when authorized.

Do you provide skip tracing?

No. Skip tracing is not currently provided. Clients should provide a valid service address and all known information that may assist with completing the service.

What areas do you serve?

Our primary service area includes King County, Snohomish County, select areas of Pierce County, and other designated Washington service locations. Service outside our primary area may be available for an additional travel fee. Contact us for availability and pricing.

When does my service timeline begin?

Service timelines begin after all required documents, service information, and payment have been received. Same-Day orders must be complete and paid before 11:00 a.m. to qualify for a same-business-day first attempt.

What happens after service is completed?

Clients receive status updates throughout the assignment. Following successful service, the appropriate Proof or Declaration of Service will be prepared as applicable. If service is unsuccessful after the included attempts, the assignment will be documented accordingly.

What is a door hanger or service notice?

A door hanger, also called a service notice, is a notice that may be left at the service address when a physical service attempt is unsuccessful. When authorized by the client, the notice can inform the intended recipient that a process server attempted to contact them regarding legal documents and provide information about how to contact the process server.

Zaria's Process Serving provides door-hanger service notices at no additional charge with physical process-serving assignments when the client authorizes their use. A door hanger does not itself constitute personal service of process.

Our service notices may also provide the recipient with a QR code that can provide access to an electronic delivery option through ServeManager, when Digital Service is available and appropriate for the assignment. The recipient may be able to acknowledge receipt and waive physical service through the electronic process before accessing the documents, depending on the Digital Service workflow used.

Clients should independently confirm that electronic service or electronic delivery is permitted and appropriate for their particular matter, jurisdiction, court, or proceeding.

Can the recipient use the door-hanger QR code to receive the documents electronically?

In some circumstances, yes. The QR code may provide the recipient with an electronic delivery option through ServeManager's Digital Service system. Depending on the Digital Service workflow, the recipient may be able to access the documents electronically, acknowledge receipt, and/or affirmatively waive physical service before downloading the documents.

ServeManager can record available electronic activity associated with the transaction, such as link access, acknowledgment or waiver activity, and document downloads.

However, the QR code does not mean that electronic service is automatically permitted for every case. The client is responsible for confirming that electronic service or electronic delivery is permitted and appropriate for the applicable jurisdiction, court, proceeding, and recipient.

Zaria's Process Serving does not provide legal advice or guarantee that electronic delivery will satisfy the requirements of a particular case or be accepted by a court or other authority.
